What is Scientology?

There are groups and organizations working to bring to light the nasty underbelly of Scientology.

It was started in the 1950s by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard in fulfilment to his declared aim to start a religion to make money. It is an offshoot to a method of psychotherapy he concocted from various sources which he named "Dianetics". Dianetics is a form of regression therapy. It was then further expanded to appear more like a religion in order to enjoy tax benefits. He called it "Scientology".

Scientology is a confused concoction of crackpot, dangerously applied psychotherapy, oversimplified, idiotic and inapplicable rules and ideas and science-fiction drivel that is presented to its members (at the "advanced" levels) as profound spiritual truth. Operation Clambake

Many of todays celebrities are members of the Church of Scientology.

So what do you think? Religion created to help people deal with their issues and live a mentally stable life. Or Religious cult feeding off peoples insecurities and bank accounts.

hahaha well its always great to have a humorous point of view. You can't do anything but laugh really. I have a church of Scientology center about a block from my house. It's a house with a sign. No ones ever there. Or at least it doesn't look like they are. It will be interesting to see how scientology pans out over the next 10 - 15 years.

i dont know what to think of it i am not really into religion i think some people take religion to the extremes there is nothing wrong with believing but that fact that people fight and kill beacuse of it is stupid

Well scientologists don't consider themselves religious, and yet they belong to the "Church of Scientology". Scientology has broken people, and hurt them in many ways. but they aren't a religion. They believe they have a better understanding of themselves and those around them by following the guidelines put forth by their all encompassing leader. hmmm Sounds like a Religion to me. Matter of fact it sounds like most if not all religions. I think Scientology is going to fail. Not anytime soon though... there's more money to be made.
