Paranormal State - Discussion

I was intrigued by the commercials promoting Paranormal State.
Looking back I should have known better, especially with all the Special Effects and spooky music.
I watched the full two hour premiere, and have caught bits and pieces of two other episodes since its debut on A&E.
Shows like Paranormal State make a mockery of Investigating ghost phenomenon.
They completely disregard the scientific route and put way too much credit into Feelings and or Mediums. Not that I have a problem with mediums, Its the type of medium they choose to employ. Both episodes I watched in full plus one of the other episodes I flipped through spoke largely of demons, even going so far as to blame demons for the "activity". The host is ridiculous in his role as "Team Leader" and their group meetings almost always end up looking pretentious and over thought with his "guidance".
Although, it was funny to watch his "captains log" where he would walk alone in thought of the past nights events, always reminding us of his brush with demons as a child.
It's unfortunate that some people believe "paranormal state" are going about it the right way. In all honesty they are just making it harder for sincere Paranormal Groups and Organizations to be taken seriously.
What are your thoughts?

I like watching it, it's cute. But yeah it does remind me of a reality TV version of Buffy's "Scoby Gang." Like you said, everything reminds him of his childhood, they might have a couple of evp's , but nothing else. Also "Dead Time" bothers me, isn't that just another word for seance? Yet, they tell clients not to do them?

Dead time is supposedly the inverted time of Christs birth. It's claimed that Jesus was born at 3pm, so dead time is 3am.
Its foolish and immature.
I think if you watch the show for its entertainment value thats cool.
but its sad to see people watching and following their examples.
Paranormal State is largely fictional and should be treated as entertainment.
I remember in one of the premiere episodes I watched, they were in a private residence sitting around a table umm holding a vigil or something.
Anyway, someone says they hear footsteps. So the edited it in footsteps. Then you see one of the doors slamming. No one got up to investigate the door. You know why BECAUSE IT WASN'T PARANORMAL.
If I was at a location and I heard footsteps followed by the door slamming, I'd be on my feet and checking the door for breezes or to see if someone came in. Instead the Host/lead investigator guy was passing notes with the medium about the name of a demon. haha It was AWFUL

Same here, I watch it just for a laugh same as Scariest Places On Earth. I mean those places might actually be haunted, but with such lack of knowledge in a supposed investigation group, how can you tell? I also would do the same with that door slamming. If there was a noise unaccounted for I would be hot-footing toward it.
