The Large Hadron Collider

So,
Some Swiss scientists built this machine called a Large Hadron Collider or LHC. This machine will be essentially a science test to apparently prove that particles can be created from nothing. The first beams were fired through it on September 10th 2008 and they will fire the first high energy collisions on October 21st.

Sounds simple right? Well guess what? Its got a dark side as well.
The fun part of this machine is that it has the potential to create black holes on Earth thus ending life as we know it at a pretty high rate of speed. It also has the potential to create strangelets, magnetic monopoles, and vacuum bubbles. All of which sound like good times.
